Campaigning is a crucial part of the work that Aegis Students does. A vital part of this is awareness raising. We also lobby local and national governments in support of Aegis Trust’s campaigns on Peace, Justice and Accountability in Sudan, Strengthening UK laws on international crimes and Asylum.

Walk to Remember
On 7 April 2010, Aegis Students from Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda and the UK will Walk to Remember the countless lives that have been lost to genocide.
Students in the UK will march alongside Rwandan, Sudanese and Holocaust survivors from the Holocaust Memorial Gardens to Speakers’ Corner in London’s Hyde Park.
Walk to Remember serves a practical purpose. By remembering the lives that have been wasted at the hands of hatred and prejudice, we are remembering how important it is for us to challenge this today, in our own communities. Remembering them is a call to action.

Walk4Darfur
In 2008 university students joined both Holocaust and Darfur survivors to Walk4Darfur. The march – a 75-mile trek from the outskirts of Cambridge to Whitehall – was done in memory of the Africans killed in the ethnic cleansing in Darfur and the millions more displaced with their livelihoods destroyed.

“We’re walking to show world leaders we expect them to act on their promises,” said Grace Walker, Nottingham Trent Aegis Students Society Alumnist. “By starting this march from Oakington, where Darfuri survivors are still held at the Immigration Removal Centre, we’re also protesting their shameful treatment by the British Government – which still wants to send them back to Sudan.”
Aegis Students is looking for passionate and creative individuals to drive our grassroots movement against genocide and mass atrocities by re-launching Walk4Darfur.
