Giovanna Stoppani from Refugee Education Across Conflicts Trust (REACT) explains how your fundraising efforts for Fund4Darfur have helped support Darfur’s displaced children.
We are very pleased to let you know that in October, REACT successfully completed a delivery of books to the refugee camps of Eastern Chad. Thanks to Aegis’ Fund4Darfur, we were able to procure 2220 books. Without Aegis' support, this delivery would not have been possible.
The books were delivered to the camps during a 2 -day mission, organized by UNHCR, to coincide with the beginning of the new school term.
1576 books were distributed in Am Nabak and 644 books in Touloum, in front of the camp’s school directors, education inspectors and teachers. With Aegis’ support, we met with these educators last year to conduct a survey and this distribution reflects the needs identified by the teachers during that visit.
The teachers were extremely happy and appreciated the quality of the books. We have been told by UNHCR that REACT is the only organization that has succeeded in delivering large amounts text books that meet the educational needs of the Darfuri refugee population in both subject and quantity. We have been formally asked by the UNHCR to continue and if possible increase our educational supplies to the refugees.
Aegis will continue to support REACT during 2010 with the funds raised for Fund4Darfur.
