‘Rwanda Month’ at White Rose Award winning Nottingham Trent Aegis Society

Discover Rwanda made it impossible for us not to raise as much awareness as possible about the 1994 genocide and help them to rebuild their lives. Our ‘Rwanda Month’ was intended to help support the survivors in Rwandan through Fund4Rwanda.

We organised about three or four fundraising and awareness raising activities per week. These activities ranged from:

- Halls Raids: we visited university halls and collected cash for Fund4Rwanda.
- Trick or Treat: This Halloween, we dressed up and went around campus ‘Trick or Treating’ for donations.
- Film Screening: of Shake Hands With The Devil. The audience paid a small donation to watch the film. The screening was in the same room as a Darfur Exhibition and a merchandise stall. We sold Rwandan jewellery that we got from Aegis Students.
- Street collection: in the city centre.

We used flyers, posters and emailing mailing lists to publicise our events. We also managed to get two live radio interviews with our local radio station .

Rwanda month was a great success due our committee’s hard work. I am proud to have such an active Aegis Society at my University.
