Going to Rwanda with Aegis Students’ Discover Rwanda, was an incredible experience. It was everything that I had expected, and so much more. Upon my return, I found myself with newly found humility, knowledge and memory cards full of photographs. Being the only participant to return to Canada, I was committed to sharing my experiences with others and to raising awareness about both present-day Rwanda and the genocide.
Working with the Holocaust Center of Toronto, and a local Jewish community center, I put on a photography exhibition called Never/Again, which featured my work from Rwanda and the work of another artist on Theresienstadt. Jeremy Mimnagh, gave a presentation about his experience with Theresienstadt, and I discussed my experiences in Rwanda with Aegis Students.
My Rwandan work has just been accepted into another exhibition, called “Remains to be Seen. It will be exhibited at the end of May for two weeks. It will also be shown at the public, Ryerson University exhibition, Maximum Exposure, in April, which coincides with anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda.
