• Darfuri asylum seekers in the UK will now be granted refugee status, according to a new Home Office decision. The Aegis Trust presented the UK Home Office with evidence that Darfuri asylum seekers have been tortured after deportation to the Sudanese capital Khartoum. James Smith, CEO of The Aegis Trust said to the BBC "It's been a long time coming, but we're delighted the Home Office made the right decision." Read more

• Last Summer Aegis Trust CEO, James Smith tasked former Aegis Students, Grace Walker and Angela Ford with opening Aegis first charity shop.  The Charity Shop, on Goose Gate in Nottingham City Centre opened in December.

• The first annual White Rose Award was presented to Nottingham Trent Aegis Students by Mukesh Kapila at our National Conference earlier this term. The award recognizes the achievements of the NTU society and the passion and dedication of its members. Mukesh Kapila said at the conference, “My message to students wanting to join Aegis is that they cannot afford not to... We need to constantly be vigilant against the forces of evil that can inflict so much harm upon the innocent”

• Fifteen SOAS Expedition Society students drove from London to Timbuktu this summer in order to raise money for Fund4Darfur.

• Cambridge, Central School of Speech and Drama, Glasgow and Edinburgh are the latest universities to join Aegis Students.
