Learning about the cause and consequences of the genocide is a key focus to this seminar. Understanding the early warning signs of a genocide can help us to act to prevent it occurring and protect innocent people at risk. During the seminar you will find out more about the underlying causes of genocide – how words and ideas can gradually develop and lead to the exclusion and murder of a group of people purely because of who they are. You will participate in specially organised workshops and seminars to understand the underlying issues of genocide and how to effectively transfer its lessons in your professional environment.
You will also have the opportunity to witness the Education Programme - which Aegis has developed with the Rwandan Government – in action, delivering genocide education to Rwanda’s students. The programme, which launched in June 2008, not only teaches the youth of Rwanda, but also reaches out to the region and around the world.
During the Discover Rwanda Field Seminar you will meet with students and teachers from different educational institutions in Rwanda and work together, sharing ideas and experiences. You will also take part in informative workshops and discussions about delivering effective, relevant genocide education in your institution and advocacy against genocide for when you return home.
