Aegis Students International Conference

Aegis Students International Conference provides young people with the opportunity to share experiences, ideas and passion for change with youth from Rwanda and around the world.

The conference, held annually in Rwanda during the Discover Rwanda trip, is organised by Aegis Students Rwanda and the International Programmes Coordinator, in conjunction with the Education Programme team at the Kigali Memorial Centre. Each conference focuses on a different aspect under the broader theme “the role of youth in taking action against and preventing genocide”. The conference highlights important contemporary issues in genocide and mass atrocity prevention and provides participants with the skills to make a difference.

The conference is comprised of different sessions and workshops delivered by experts on different topics, politicians, youth mobilisation experts and senior members of Aegis Students and Aegis Trust. Experts have included Thembile Segoete, Special Assistant to the Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), Serge Polisi, Youth Mobilisation Expert at the Rwandan Ministry of Youth and Dr James Smith, Co-founder and Chief Executive of Aegis Trust. The conferences are attended by over fifty student leaders from Rwandan universities and schools as well as the Discover Rwanda participants who come from different countries around the world.

Aegis Students International Conference also informs on the work of Aegis in Rwanda and creates a forum through which participants work together to impact their local, national and international communities.

The International Conference is free to attend and you can reserve a place for 2010 by emailing: rwanda@aegisstudents.org
