JUSTICE BARAKA

RWANDA EDUCATION AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR
justice.baraka@aegisstudents.org

In 2008 Justice was among the top ten volunteers of the year in his home country of Kenya. Justice was recognized by his community and national media for his efforts in improving living conditions for internally displaced people – which amazingly even included helping 32 mothers give birth and access free quality maternal care.

His love for cycling prompted Justice to enter 12 mountain biking competitions, of which he has won 5! But his true passion lies in working with young children – having worked in many children’s homes in Kenya – making Justice perfect for the role of Aegis Students Rwanda’s Education and Outreach Coordinator.

In 2007, shortly after the post election violence in Kenya, Justice mobilised his fellow young people by organising a Peace Walk. He uses his vast experience working with young people to educate youth on the consequences of genocide, encourage them to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and to make a positive contribution to their communities by “stepping in the gap” between the roots of conflict and genocide.

Justice would like to take what he’s learned from Rwanda back to his home in Kenya. Justice hopes to campaign against the political conflict in Kenya, especially during the upcoming 2012 general elections. Although he knows putting an end to the Kenyan conflicts may not be easy, Justice believes that the actions of a group of dedicated young people can truly make a positive difference.
